In this day and age, we live in a world where the internet dominates our lives. It is a source for endless information and access to anything we want when we want it. When I came to Israel, I was under the impression that electronic forms of media are not as popular here in comparison to America. Yes, I had the tourist mentality that Israel was just a desert with bad WiFi -- I was very wrong.
I just got back from a trip to see my cousin, Gilya, in Tel Aviv. Not only was a lot of fun, but I could tell how things like the internet could have a big impact on society even in places like the dock next to the Mediterranean Sea. Tel Aviv is greatly westernized and in some areas more densely populated with people from other countries than actual Israelis. This shows who quickly Israel is becoming a state not just for Israelis. This emphasizes how fast information can spread around a place like Tel Aviv -- exactly like the internet.
However, the internet can be a dangerous place. Hence the new development of the Cyber Security park in Be'er Sheva called "Cyber-Spark." The over-arching goal of the park is to make Be'er Sheva the center of internet security in Israel. So far, the response has been positive with big companies like IBM offering support once the park is built. The state of Israel has invested a lot of money towards this idea, and in my opinion I think it is a step in the right direction.
I think that Israel is a great place to have this concept be put into effect. Israel has always been technologically advanced. Without them, things like the USB wouldn't exist. Also cherry tomatoes… They (cherry tomatoes) are not exactly technological in any way but they are delicious, so it deserves to be mentioned. With that being said, Israel is the right place and I believe that they will be successful in providing a better lock-down on the security of the internet.
To anyone who says that internet security is not important, they are wrong. I hate to be so blunt but the idea that information can travel so fast across the internet is simply scary. Take this blog for example, I had no idea that I would be getting over two thousand views in one day when my cousin, Dan, said that he would share it with some of his friends. Granted, I'm not going to voice any plans about how I intend to destroy the world or take it over, but if someone wanted to they could send their plan to millions in a matter of seconds. The internet is serious and should not be played with. For that reason, a cyber security park is a good idea for any country -- and I'm happy to see Israel is the pioneer with this idea.
I agree with this, people are always on the internet and there are always people hacking on accounts, so security is vital to internet users.
